Haeinsa Temple, South Gyeongsang Province

Buddhist statues

Buddha statues in the Daejokgwangjeon, the Main Hall of Haeinsa, a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. In the centre is Vairocana Buddha, flanked by the large statues of Avalokiteśvara, a bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas and Samantabhadra, a bodhisattva associated with Buddhist practice and meditation. Between them are small statues of Manjusri, a bodhisattva associated with transcendent wisdom and Ksitigarbha, bodhisattva of hell-beings.
