Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province
This stone statue of a seated Buddha located on a mid-slope of Samneung valley in Namsan Mountain features the symbolic gesture of expelling evil by “touching the ground”, cross-legged sitting on a lotus pedestal. The head and body were made separately before being combined. The Buddha's style is that of the Unified Silla Kingdom, made between late 8th and early 9th century.
