Apulia, Italy’s far south east
Elaborate frescoes on the ceiling of San Nicola's Romanesque basilica in the old city of Bari. These grandiose paintings were executed by Carlo Rosa of Bitontum between 1661 and 1671. In the central nave area are, among others, scenes inspired by the life of the Saint, who lived in the 3rd century, the salvation of sailors and the Council at Nicaea, a council of Christian bishops convened in Nicaea in present-day Turkey by the Roman Emperor Constantine I .
