Palermo, the capital city of Sicily
Mummified monks in the Capuchin Catacombs in Palermo. The first monk who was mummified was Brother Silvestro of Gubbio in 1599 after Palermo's Capuchin monastery had outgrown its original cemetery. The last friar interred into the catacombs was Brother Riccardo in 1871.
