Palermo, the capital city of Sicily
Christ Pantocrator (from Greek all-powerful), a beautiful Byzantine mosaic in the dome of the Palatine Chapel, commissioned by King Roger II in the 12th Century in Palermo. The mosaics in the dome, by Byzantine artists, are probably the oldest, dating from the 1140s and inscribed in Greek.
