Palermo, the capital city of Sicily
The Cathedral of Palermo was erected in 1185 Walter Ophamil (or Walter of the Mill), the Anglo-Norman archbishop of Palermo on the foundations of an earlier Byzantine basilica. It has a a long history of additions, alterations and restorations, the last of which occurred in the 18th century when the dome was added.
