Palermo, the capital city of Sicily
The Chiesa del Gesù, (also known as Casa Professa) in Via Ponticello was built between 1564 and 1633, the first church in Sicily built by the Jesuits. It is one of the most important Baroque churches of Palermo and the whole of Sicily. It was largely destroyed in the 1943 Allied air raids and had to be considerably restored at the end of World War II.
