Fountain of Shame

Fontana Pretoria, the magnificent fountain on Piazza Pretoria, Palermo, was carved by the Florentine sculptor Francesco Camilliani in 1554 and 1555. Originally intended for a private Florentine villa and not a public square, the fountain is adorned with nude figures and when it was first unveiled in 1575 at Piazza Pretoria, there was outrage at all this nudity: since then it has always been referred to as Fontana della Vergogna, or “Fountain of Shame”.
