Piemonte, Italy’s North West
San Giulio Island in Lake Orta is 275 metres long (from north to south) and 140 metres wide (from east to west). The tower of the Basilica of Saint Giulio, dedicated to St. Julius of Novara, who lived in the second half of the fourth century, is seen to the left of the monumental old Seminary, dating from the 1840s. Since 1976 it has been transformed into a Benedictine monastery.
