Imperial Rome, past glory

Palatine Hill palaces

The remains of the great palaces on Palatine Hill, the residence of the emperors of Rome, as seen from the Circus Maximus, the largest area built for spectacles in Rome. It measured 600 x 200 metres and had a capacity of 320,000 spectators who witnessed the chariot races that were held here.
