Chimaera of Arezzo

The Chimaera of Arezzo, a bronze statue which was found in Arezzo, an ancient Etruscan and Roman city in Tuscany, in 1553. Of Etruscan origin, it is estimated to have been created around 400 BCE. In Greek mythology the monstrous Chimaera ravaged its homeland, Lycia, until it was slain by Bellerophon. It is shaped as a lion with a goat's head on its back and a tail shaped as a serpent; the present tail is an 18th-century restoration as the original was missing. It is in Florence's Archeological museum.
