Bacchus Fountain

The Bacchus Fountain, depicting the dwarf Pietro Barbino (Morgante) - the court jester of duke Cosimo I de' Medici - as the Roman god of wine, seated astride a gigantic turtle. The fountain was designed by Valerio Cioli and completed in 1560. It is near the entrance to the Boboli Gardens from the Piazza dei Pitti, behind the Palazzo Pitti, on the south bank of the Arno in Florence.
