The official Coat of Arms of Grenada is a shield divided into four parts by a golden cross. In the centre of this cross is the Santa Maria, Columbus’ flagship. A British lion on a red field is shown in the shield’s upper left and lower right sections, with a golden crescent moon and a Madonna Lily in the upper right and lower left sections. Above the shield is a Royal Helm in gold, with a star symbolising hopes, aspirations and ideals, topped with a garland of Bougainvillea branches. It has seven red roses, standing for the seven parishes of Grenada. An armadillo with a corn stalk and a Grenada Dove with a banana plant supports the shield. The base represents luxuriant grassland mountains and the Grand Etang Lake with a sprig of cocoa and a sprig of nutmeg in the foreground. A ribbon displays the national motto: “Ever conscious of God we aspire, build and advance as one people”.
