Lalibela and its rock-hewn churches

Bete Medhane Alem

Bete Medhane Alem, the largest of all monolithic Lalibela churches resembles a Greek temple: it is entirely surrounded by square-shaped columns, with a further forest of twenty eight massive rectangular columns supporting the roof inside.
