Paphos, the south-west of Cyprus

First bath of Dionysos Mosaic

Mosaic floor in the Triclinium, the Reception Hall of the House of Aion in Kato Paphos Archaeological Park. The panel at the top right depicts Hermes, with the baby Dionysos on his lap; he is going to hand him over to old Tropheus, a Selenos and his future teacher, and to the nymphs of Mount Nysa, who are preparing his bath. Near the bath, the personifications of Mount Nysa and Anatrophe are shown. The young god is accompanied by three representations: Theogonia, Nectar and Ambrosia.
