Nicosia, Capital of the Republic of Cyprus
The limestone head of Sarapis, a Graeco-Egyptian god from the Temple of Sarapis in Soli (Soloi), dating from the Roman period, in the Cyprus Museum in Nicosia. The cult of Sarapis was introduced during the 3rd century BCE on the orders of Ptolemy I of Egypt. It was a means to unify the Greeks and Egyptians in his realm. The god is depicted as Greek in appearance, but with Egyptian trappings, and combines iconography from a great many cults, signifying both abundance and resurrection.
