The Eastern Karpas Peninsula

Church and mosque, Dipkarpaz

The Ayios Synesios Orthodox church and mosque in Dipkarpaz (Rizokarpaso). When during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 the peninsula was cut off by Turkish troops, Greek-Cypriot inhabitants were prevented from fleeing to the south. Rizokarpaso still is the town with the largest, now mainly elderly, Greek population in the North.
