Santiago de Cuba, the second-largest Cuban city

José Martí tomb, Santa Ifigenia

The tomb of José Martí, the hero of Cuba’s independence struggle against the Spanish, in his mausoleum in the Cementerio Santa Ifigenia. Erected in 1951 during the Batista era, the imposing hexagonal structure is positioned so that Martí’s wooden casket (draped in a Cuban flag) receives daily shafts of sunlight.
