Santiago de Cuba, the second-largest Cuban city
The entrance to the museum, installed in 1967 near gate 3 of Cuartel Moncada, Santiago’s Moncada Barracks. On 26 July 1953 it was stormed by 100 revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro, in an attempt to start the revolution against dictator Fulgencio Batista. The main attack took place here: the bullet holes are still visible. The attack failed and most participants were ececuted, but after the Revolution had succeeded, the barracks was converted into a school called Ciudad Escolar 26 de Julio, named after the date those events took place.
