Democratic Federal Yugoslavia, 1943
In 1943 the Yugoslav Partisan movement, a communist, multi-ethnic anti-fascist resistance group, was led by Josip Broz Tito, who had also established the Anti-Fascist Council for the National Liberation of Yugoslavia (AVNOJ). That year they committed to remaking Yugoslavia into a democratic federation of six republics called “Democratic Federal Yugoslavia”. Its flag was the blue-white-red Yugoslav tricolour with a red five-pointed star on the white stripe; its dimensions were altered from 2:3 to 1:2.
