Dubrovnik, the historic Ragusa Republic
The Church of Saint Blaise, a Baroque church, built in 1715, facing Luža Square at the eastern of old Dubrovnik and dedicated to Saint Blaise (St. Vlaho). It was built in 1715 by the Venetian architect and sculptor Marino Gropelli (1662-1728) on the foundations of the badly damaged Romanesque medieval church. Behind it is the Roman Baroque Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built on the site of several former cathedrals and finished in 1713 by the Dubrovnik architect Ilija Katičić.
