Moshupa, home of the Bakgatla
A rural scene, houses below the hill, in the village of Moshupa (Mosopa), about 32 kilometres north of Kanye, with a population of around 20,000. Moshupa is characterised by unique and gigantic mountain outcrops, with giant rocks (some up to 40 metres in radius); some so balanced on top of each other that even the villagers themselves wonder why they do not fall. They are believed to fall only when the village chief is dying, as an omen.
