Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital
The inner courtyard of Tashichho Dzong, Thimphu’s large Buddhist monastery and fortress. The present Dzong was rebuilt in 1962 by the third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, after the capital was moved from Punakha to Thimphu as the seat of Government. It followed a different plan from the old one, originally built in 1216 but rebuilt after fires and an earthquake over the years.
