Kingdom of Bhutan, 1956
In 1956, the Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuck visited eastern Bhutan, and a new version of the flag was introduced. Based upon photos of its 1949 predecessor, it now features a white Druk (dragon) instead of green, holding two jewels in its front claws and facing away from the hoist. The flag’s aspect ratio (height to width) of 4:5 was later changed to 2:3, as it was found that the flag fluttered better with those measurements.
