After a welcome song, “Keriba ged nor e”, by women beating snake-skin drums, young women perform traditional dances from Murray Island in the Torres Strait depicting daily life in the islands: “Guba” (Looking for fish with bow and arrows) and “Yarriba ba” (Finding the food); in Cairns during celebrations commemorating Mabo Day.
