Along the west coast of Western Australia

Fragum cockles, Shell Beach

Cockle shells at Shell Beach, covered with shells to a depth of 7–10 metres. Fragum cockles can survive in this hypersaline environment, however its predators cannot. It is the lack of predators which leads to the incredible abundance of cockles inhabiting these areas of Shark Bay.
