Queensland, 1870
Queensland separated from New South Wales on 10 December 1859 and apparently a light blue Queensland Separation Flag, with a red St George's cross, and the British Union Flag in the upper corner appeared during the celebrations, but this was not an official flag. Its first flag was adopted 11 years later, a British Blue Ensign defaced with a profile portrait of Queen Victoria, after whom the colony was named, on a blue disc, surrounded by a white annulus on which the word “Queensland” appeared in gold.
