Saranda, southern city on the Ionian Sea

Leaving by ferry

Saranda from the Saranda Express, the ferry to Corfu with in the background on the hilltop the ruined Lëkurësi Castle (Kalaja e Lëkurësit). It was built in 1537 by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent who had attacked Corfu and needed to control the harbour of Saranda and the road that connected it with Butrint.
